What would happen if i put a match to gun powder?

what would happen what it just make a loud nosie what it blow up like a bomb what would happen?

Im making my own firworks and need to know if i should use gun powder or black powder i dont have many places that sell much to its one or the other what should i use?

Im going for noise more then explosionWhat would happen if i put a match to gun powder?
The proper way to dispose of gun powder is by burning it in a pile. It lights up and makes a bright flame and makes a slight noise like a wind gust. Its not that impressive, I do it all the time when I pull down 7.62X54 to reload 7.7 japanese.

I tried making fireworks from black powder, pyrodex, and assorted smokeless powders. Don't waste your time or money they don't do anything cool. The powder has to be tightly contained while burning in order to build up a lot of pressure in order to make noise. Real firecrackers use flash powder instead, which is much more volitile than any gun powder. I won't tell you what 2 chemicals to use, because if buy them together from any chemical supply company, the ATF will be looking for you. If you really want to find out, a search for flash powder should give you the details. What would happen if i put a match to gun powder?
boom!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Find something else to chew up your time
first i am going to say i am not shure what your doing is legal and second if your going to make a boom you have to compress the powder if not it will just burn.i reload my own ammo and that's the way i get rid of all my own powder is just burn it it wont explode if its not compressed

PS me and my buddy made a cannon once that baby was loud but we loaded it with pistol powder once and blew it all to hell so be careful and do some research before taking up such hobbies
STOP....... NOW.!!

I do not want to hurt your feelings here but its better than losing a body part. Do not mess with that s--t. It will blow you up and anyone around you as well.

Fireworks are mostly made of chemicals and other stuff and not made up entirely of gun powder or black powder.

If you want noise get a air horn.
why would you put a match? For it to light up after the explosion? Hey, do yourself a favor, just buy the freakin' firecracker...
I think gun powder would make the louder noise. But black poweder is also loud. Either way your good with the noise.
neither of those will make noise. they just make a big flame and alllllooooootttttt of smoke.. already tried.
Black powder IS gunpowder, and it's your better choice for fireworks. Smokeless propellants tend to have slower and less dramatic burning characteristics. The faster pistol powders, like Bullseye and VihtaVuori N310 will flash pretty well, but even the coarser grains of black powder (Fg and FFg) aren't a very good choice. I certainly hope you know what you're doing, because this is a really good way to hurt yourself, or somebody else.
you deserved to get slapped for asking that

BOOM!
It would ignite and blow. DO NOT TRY THIS. I have done it before and it is not safe you will get really hurt.
explode
It would blow up.
Please stop.

I played with fireworks when I was young %26amp; clueless as

you are now. - I was lucky, a friend was not.

FYI: You don't get noise without an explosion.

If it's loud, its dangerous. - It's only a matter of degree.

Even a small amount of powder burning unconfined, (relatively quitely), can cause severe, painful, chemical burns.

You probably won't heed the above warnings, so at least know what you are doing before you start.

There is an excellant history of fireworks with information that can keep you from making the worst mistakes in a book called ';A history of powder and explosives';.

it was written for chemists, so DANGER you might

actually learn something.
