Yes you can take both. But did the doctor tell you to only use pharmacuetical grade fish oil, so you will not be filling yourself full of mercury and other bad stuff. Eat some algae. That is where fish get their omega-3s. See site below.Can I take flax seed powder in addition to fish oil pills?
Yes you should. Realize fish oil can thin your blood. If you are at risk for a stroke this is good but if you are going in for surgery then you may want to stop use a few weeks before hand so you will clot properly.
If you are trying to increase your Omega3 intake you could also try Chia seeds. They are packed with omega 3, protien, fiber, magnesium, calcium, etc. www.rawveganbooks.com has them for $7.50 a lb but you only need 1-2 tablespoons added to your soups or muffins to get all these benefits. If you want a good bran muffin mix you can try the one below it has flaxseed(omega 3), nuts (omega 3), oatmeal and you can add 2 Tablespoons Chia seeds. I make this every 5 weeks and freeze them so we can have 2 for breakfast in the morning. Without Chia seeds it works out to about 8grams of protein for every 2 muffins you eat.
Bran Flaxseed Muffins
1 陆 Cup Unbleached flour
[OR if you can NOT have glueten
陆 Cup Quinoa (wheat-less flour with protein) + 陆 Cup Brown Rice Flour + 陆 Cup Tapioca Flour]
1 Cup chopped nuts
戮 Cup Flaxseed Meal
戮 Cup Oatmeal you grind up in your food processor
戮 Cup Brown Sugar
2 teaspoon Baking Soda
2 teaspoon Cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon cloves (optional)
1 teaspoon Baking Powder
1 teaspoon Vanilla
陆 teaspoon Salt
戮 Cup Milk ***
2 eggs
2 apples with peels ground up in your food processor
1 陆 Cups carrots ground up in your food processor
1 Cup raisins cooked and drained (boil under medium heat for 5 minutes)
*** If you are allergic to milk you can substitute it for 戮 Cup water you boiled the raisins in for 5 min.
Mix all of the above ingredients together then spoon into muffin tin lined with cupcake paper cups.
Crumble Topping
录 Cup brown sugar
戮 Cup chopped nuts
陆 teaspoon cinnamon
Mix together and add a little to the top of each muffin before baking at 350 degrees for 15-20 minutes

Yes you can. Both are good sources of Omega 3 nutrients that would benefit cardiovascular health in the long run. Omega 3 conveys HDL or the good cholesterol to the bloodstream which would help in clearing the undue formation of LDL or the bad cholesterol over arterial walls and the blood vessels--causing hypertension and elevated cholesterol levels. It would be better though to purchase ground flax seed, the kernels of which you can easily grind over a coffee grinder and sprinkle over oatmeal or smoothies to not only benefit from Omega 3 but also from dietary fibers and lignans (phytochemicals).
