How do you separate powder from salt if they are a mixture?

I'm doing a thingy in class and I was just wondering...How do you separate powder from salt if they are a mixture?
Depending on the powder, which I'm going to assume that it's covalent, it should float on the top of water and the salt will dissolve. You then could strain the powder and then, if you want to get the salt back to normal, evaporate the water out of it.





That would be my guess.
